LADWP Science Bowl Winning STEM Students
North Hollywood High School students emerged victorious at this year’s Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) Science Bowl XXXII Regional Competition held March 2nd in downtown Los Angeles. They received a $1,250 Hitachi Scholarship and the 1st place trophy, honoring the late Melinda Rho, an LADWP employee and Science Bowl volunteer who dedicated more than 25 years.
The credit union proudly supports the LADWP Science Bowl program each year, and is a key sponsor of their 2nd place $7,500 high-school student scholarship. Securing second place was The Science Academy STEM Magnet High School Team, earning each of them a $1,000 WPCCU Scholarship and trophy. Plus, their school received $2,500. Trophies and monetary awards were also presented to schools whose teams placed 3rd to 4th place in the LADWP Science Bowl.
Annual Meeting 2024
WPCCU’s 2024 Annual Meeting was held virtually and in-person on Wednesday, 3/27/2024.

Fraud trends: Use of AI tools for Impersonation scams
According to the FTC, fraudsters are using AI tools to impersonate individuals on a much wider scale. AI-driven scams are on the rise with voice cloning and spoofing of government seals, logos, and web addresses. Even more, fraudsters are targeting older adults.
What are impersonator scams?
When someone calls or emails, are they who they say they are?
Types of impersonator scams:
- Tech support scam – Someone will call advising there’s a problem with your computer and wants to help. Hang up!
- Romance scam – Someone on social media says they’re interested, and could be true love. Then, you learn they live far away, but seek money so they can meet. Disconnect!
- Government impersonator scam – You receive a call or email about your Social Security Number or issues with Medicare benefits. Hang up or delete! Government agencies will not call out of the blue and make any threats.
- Grandkid scam – Someone calls claiming to be your grandkid says they’ve been hurt or are in some kind of trouble. Is it really them? Hang up!
- Business impersonator scam – You get a call, email, text, or social media message that looks like a business you know. They advise there’s a problem with your account or you won a prize. They ask you to click a link or call a number. Is it really the business? Hang up and delete!
Remember: If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Don’t take the bait.

- Ensure all fields are completed on the check
- Endorse the check
- Make sure you have a good Internet connection
- Place checks on a well-lit, plain, contrasting background
- Take a good picture and ensure the entire check appears in the photo
