Summer Banking Tips
It’s officially summer! From planting a garden to family outings, we’ve put together a collection of our favorite things to do around Southern California and beyond.
- Be a tourist in your own town. Go on tour and see the Hollywood sign and the homes of movie stars!
- View the cosmic wilderness and more at the Griffith Observatory
- Go to the Getty, Petersen Automotive Museum and other SoCal museums
- Retail therapy! Go shopping
- Visit the La Brea Tar Pits to see ice age fossils
- Go to your favorite amusement park
- Host a backyard movie night – String up some holiday lights and drape a bedsheet to project your favorite move. Portable projectors are easier to setup than you think
- Make it a spa weekend – Take time for yourself to relax and de-stress—in-town or away
- Go behind-the-scenes and take a ballpark tour of Angel Stadium or Dodgers Stadium
- Enjoy a summer concert – chances are your community or a neighboring one sponsors free concerts. Grab your lawn chair and picnic basket for a relaxing time at the park
- Finish your home improvement project!
What will you do this summer?
Summer Digital Tips:
Wherever your summer travels may take you, it’s easy to access cash or even conduct in-person transactions at a credit union shared branch.
Find your nearest CO-OP ATM or shared branch:
- Use your WPCCU Mobile Banking app
- Tap the "More" icon
- Choose "Locations"
- Enter an address, city, or zip code and the nearby locations will appear
- Go online to https://co-opcreditunions.org/locator
Summer Fraud Tips:
We all enjoy keeping up with family and friends by sharing stories and photos; however, are we sharing too much information? Scammers are on social too, but they’re looking at what’s posted to carry out fraudulent activities when you least expect it? Here are some helpful tips to protect yourself:
- Avoid sharing specific travel plans like vacation dates and destinations, as this could tip-off a burglar
- Post photos that don’t reveal personal information like Driver’s License photos or even the street number on your house. Never share a photo of your airline boarding pass! Learn more at travelandleisure.com
- Avoid posting until you’re home from vacation
Do you know what photo metadata means? When you take a photo with your mobile phone, information about your device, photo settings, and photo location is captured. When you text a photo, that information is shared too.
How can you protect your privacy?
- Adjust your privacy settings on social platforms and mobile devices
- Adjust settings for specific photos or globally for all photos

Fraud trends:
Planning a dream vacation is exciting – the amazing beach house, daily excursions, airline transfers, and more. Discovering that the hard work you put in to find your trip was booked through a bogus website is devastating.
How you can protect yourself:
- Use a reputable travel agency or website to make reservations
- Be sure to read the fine print on agreements
- Use your WPCCU debit or credit card instead of cash
Remember: If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Don’t take the bait.

Here's what to do:
- Get call blocking apps or services. This will help you get fewer scam calls.
- Only call a phone number you know is real if you want to confirm.
- Report scam calls. Tell the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at ReportFraud.ftc.gov
- Learn more at ftc.gov/calls.
